I am late in posting updates
on my blog. I am not even sure who even reads this. So if you do, comment, so I know I have readers out there!John and I bought our first house. We move in December 8th. Which is know is crazy, right before Christmas. But hey at least we will be settled before the holidays, I am just praying for good weather.
Right now, I am organizing, packing, and of course stressing myself out about small details. The move is coming up quick, anyone else want to come to Canada to help us move?
This last weekend was so nice.
John and I started the weekend by visiting a local farm and buying some pumpkins. I decided that we were going to have some fun and carve pumpkins this year.
The farm was great and they had all the animals out, I got to get up close and personal to some cows. But the highlight of the visit was seeing some piglets, the mother was nursing them all and then she decided to sit down and relax. Since their food source was now gone, they were all oinking so loud. I felt bad for the poor little ones, but I feel even worse for the Mom pig trying to feed 8 little piglets!
Yesterday we went to downtown Toronto to see Cats!
I know that John did not enjoy the play as much as I did. But I loved it and I enjoyed every minute of the singing and dancing. Now of course "Memories" is still going through my head and has been all day long. After the play we walked down the street to a cafe THE RED TOMATO, it was listed under places to eat in the Programme (how they spell it in Canada) for Cats! John and I decided it looked good, it is Italian with an Asian influence. John and I both decided it was the best dinner we have ever had. We are going back to the same theatre next month to see Sweeney Todd, so we are already counting down the days we can go visit that restaurant again.
So, I have some good news regarding employment. I have been offered full time employment for the online University that I was working for while I lived in Utah.
A full time position as an Alliance Advisor came open, and I am so excited about the opportunity. I can work with the wonderful people I did while I was in Utah, and I can stay home and maybe start a family sooner than I thought. :)
So for now, I have given up trying to find a job in Canada. I never realized it would be such a trying experience. I assumed everyone in Canada would want to hire me. But honestly, I like the idea of working at home better. So maybe I will never "work" in Canada. :)
On Sunday, John's sister Sandy got married. Congratulations!!
Sandy and Harry
had a beautiful wedding. Sandy looked beautiful in her wedding dress. It was a beautiful church. I did not get any pictures of inside the church since we were trying to video most of the ceremony.
After the wedding we got aboard a boat and toured Rice Lake.
I personally thought I was going to get a little seasick, since I always do when I am on the water. But after I had some ginger ale, I was fine! This is Andrew and Kristyn, Sandy's children. Notice Kristyn's, Paris Hilton pose! :)
After the boat cruise, the day ended with a lovely dinner at the Victoria Inn. I had the best cheesecake!! It was a lovely day!
Here is John's sister
Cheryl and her husband Frank. Along with their daughter Francesca.
And of course a sunset with my sooo good looking husband!
For my mom here is a picture of me!
Finally after a year of waiting, my immigration process is finally over! I am now a PR which means permanent resident, it is pretty much like a green card in the US.
The court date yesterday was not as bad as I expected. I guess I assumed they would ask lots of questions, but they took our money, asked me if I had committed any crimes, then stamped my passport. It took about an hour total for the entire process. So now I just needs to wait for my PR card.
Celebration!
So again I have slacked on posting on my blog. You may ask," Jennifer you have all the time in the world, please post on you blog more." So for all of you, here I am with a post.
Since I last posted, nothing too exciting has happened. I am still looking for work, but I have been contacted by the University of Toronto, for some temp work. In talking with them, 90% of the full time employees start out as a temp, so this might be a good way to get my foot in the door. So we will see if anything opens up with them. I will keep everyone posted.
On Saturday John and I are taking a short vacation to Ottawa. The capital of Canada, we wanted to get out of town and go somewhere close, so Ottawa sounded like fun. We have a train ride and a ghost walk planned. I will take lots of pictures when we get back so I can share the trip with everyone.
Lastly, a couple weeks ago I saw one of the best plays ever.
John even enjoyed himself. It was Evil Dead, the Musical. It was awesome, it was in downtown Toronto. Blood was thrown into the audience, you wanted to sing along to the music. It was a great time! So, I am sure everyone is wondering what I have been up to. :) I have been so bad about updating my blog. So here is an update!
Job Hunting - I have had a couple interviews. But the overall view is, I am wonderful but too qualified. The jobs I was applying for the hiring mangers did not like the fact that I have an MBA. Given that these were pretty much entry level positions. So I have set my sights higher. The universities are starting to hire, so I have been applying at a local university in Oakville. So hopefully a job there will pan out. I love working in education.
John - Everything is great with us. John just got a Model RC Monster Truck, it is gas powered and he has been having so much fun with it. Actually right now he is messing with it, I think for guys it is the best thing next to having a project car, since you can take it apart, etc. It has been fun to take it out and watch him enjoy himself.
I do not like to touch it, since I am afraid I will break something. :) I was the first one that flipped the car, so after that I prefer to sit back and watch.
Life in General - Is great! Even though I have not found a job yet I am very happy. I have started laser treatments on my face. I have some scarring on my forehead that I want to get rid of. The treatments will take 6 months and I had the first one on Tuesday. It hurt more than I thought it would but the pain was well worth it, I can already notice a big difference. I will try and take a photo the next time I go in, since the numbing cream makes me look like a frosted cupcake. :)
Have a great weekend!
I have not updated my blog forever! But I think I have maybe one or two readers, so has anyone really noticed? :)
My birthday was last week, I am 32 now! 32 and unemployed. Now that I can legally work in Canada and since I have not been able to find a job as of yet. It is really starting to bother me. In talking with other people that have immigrated, it DOES matter to employers if you do not have Canadian work experience. So I might have a tough time finding something. So I am going to give it until the end of July, then I will contact some temp agencies. I would prefer not to work temp, but I might need something to get my foot in the door and gain some experience. So if that it what I need to do, then I have no choice in the matter.
But on a good note, my birthday was awesome. John and I had my favourite Japanese. John even had some sushi! I got a keyboard from John for my birthday and I have been trying to teach myself to play. The keyboard teaches you how to play, it lights up which keys you need to hit etc. So I am excited to learn something new. Anything to keep my mind off the job hunt!
So I have decided, I hate searching for a job. Well, not hate so much as I am sad that I have not gotten one call back from any job I have applied for. I was so excited to get my work permit!! After one year of staying home waiting for my immigration to come through I am ready for a job! I know the perfect job is out there, I just hope it does not take me months to find it. :)
Thanks for allowing me to vent!
I finally made it back from Utah. I had so much fun with my sister, parents and my wonderful niece and nephews. I have some fun pictures to share.
This is Isabelle and me, with the new baby Rider.
Handsome baby Rider.
Isabelle and me cooking a cake. Of course she had to taste along the way!
It was funny how coming back to our condo in Canada after two weeks, it so felt like home. I think for the first time I realized that my home is in Canada, with John.
Today I got my social insurance number so I am ready to work! Now I just need to make sure I find the perfect job. I am going to take my time and make sure I find the right job for me.
